MPC

What it is

A US petroleum refiner and fuel marketer that also holds a substantial midstream presence.

Bull case

Oil above $99 and Hormuz disruption risk support the energy complex, but MPC simultaneously has an RSI above 70 and was flagged as potentially vulnerable. That conflict between a strong commodity catalyst and overbought technicals creates a compelling mean-reversion-versus-momentum setup. Oil-supply concerns and strong trend momentum remain supportive, but RSI 80 and a 33.6% one-month gain leave the stock vulnerable to mean reversion. The bootstrap is essentially directionless, with a +0.1% median and equal 13% probabilities of moves beyond plus or minus 5%.

Bear case

A de-escalation around Hormuz or falling crude prices could trigger an overbought reversal; continued disruption could instead overpower the mean-reversion case.
